Candidate Lisi's Positions on Holyoke Issues
SMART ECONOMIC GROWTH
Downtown Holyoke is integral to the character and quality of our entire city. Concentrating economic redevelopment to our urban core will generate predictable avenues for growth, creates public space for people to gather, preserve our natural resources, and strengthen out community diversity. I will work to stimulate business in downtown Holyoke where the infrastructure already exists.
TAXES
Expanding the tax base downtown will help retain and increase local property values while dispersing the costs among a greater number of people and business, so each bears less of a burden. I will work to strengthen the tax base by making Holyoke an attractive and logical place for new businesses and new homeowners.
COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
The move to zoned-schools can encourage parents to become more engaged with their neighborhoods and their children’s teachers. Schools will benefit as they become more of a central importance to our community. I promise to seek out and support new initiatives that will strengthen and enrich our public learning institutions.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
The demand for skilled workers is increasing. Cultivating the skills and training of Holyoke’s young population can help develop a middle class workforce that will contribute to the city’s productivity and vibrancy. I will work to ensure that young people and adult workers have access to training services that will help them advance in the workforce.
SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS
I believe that by investing in our downtown, strengthening our tax base, workforce development, and strong educational initiatives, Holyoke will be a safe, attractive, and affordable choice for new families and businesses that will contribute positively to our community. As an At-Large City Councilor, I will use these principles to guide my decisions, as they impact the entire city.
